Let us introduce you to a group of folks who are an integral part of the R.A. Brown Ranch Team. We have hand selected these herds to help us increase the number of bulls offered in our sale while maintaining the strong quality we demand in our breeding program. These herds are similar to ours in 1). The strength of their genetics, 2). The strictness of their herd health program and 3) The integrity of the data reported. These bulls come with the same breeding guarantee and customer service you have come to expect from the R.A. Brown Ranch. The bulls arrive in Throckmorton, TX after weaning to be grown and developed with our bulls under the same management program. One of the blessings that has developed from this aspect of our business is the relationships we have developed with these fine people. There are lots of great people in the “cow business” and we think many of them are on this list.

Double A Cattle Company is a rather new cattle partnership that originated as a result of a five generation family farming and ranching operation that began in Nolan County about 7 miles south of Roscoe, Texas back in 1917.  At that time, the Alexander’s, who were primarily cotton farmers, migrated west from Livingston, Texas to escape uncontrollable insect damage to East Texas cotton, while the Graham family, who were primarily cattle ranchers, migrated east from Fort Stockton, Texas to escape drought. Living just across the road from each other, W.J. Alexander and Johnny Lee Graham married a short time later, and began the legacy. In 1957, in an attempt to escape the drought of the 50’s, W. J. bought a ranch in Coryell County, and turned the Roscoe operation over to his youngest son, Dean. Dean Alexander farmed independently until 1977, when his two sons, Mike and Kim, joined the operation known as Alexander & Sons.  In 1989, when Dean retired, Mike and Kim formed a partnership known as Alexander Farms.  Then in 2004, when Mike’s oldest son, Justin, and Kim’s only son, Roddy, joined the family farm, the operation was split, as Mike kept Alexander Farms, and Kim, his wife Marsha, and son Roddy formed Alexander Ag.

In 2006, Alexander Ag got into the Red Angus registered seed stock business when they bought 4 registered Red Angus bred heifers at the RA Brown Ranch Annual Sale. They began to gradually expand the registered seed stock operation, and in 2011 were invited to become cooperators in the RA Brown Ranch Bull Cooperative. In 2012, in an attempt to accelerate the herd expansion, Alexander Ag merged its seed stock operation with Justin Alexander, and his wife, Tamara, who ran a commercial cattle operation, to form Double A Cattle Company, which today consists of registered Red Angus bulls, cows and heifers and commercial Simangus cattle.

Double A Cattle Company is committed to producing high quality cattle that meet the demands of an ever-changing market place.  Using Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer and In-vitro Fertilization along with continuous data analysis allows us to rapidly adapt to the market needs of today as well as prepare for anticipated future trends.

We are very fortunate and blessed to be a part of the R.A. Brown team.  As a unified body of cooperators we are able to capitalize on the experience, knowledge and expertise of each individual team member.  We look forward to the future growth of the registered seed stock industry and the strengthening of the many great relationships within the RA Brown Ranch Bull Cooperative family, as the future looks extremely bright for the beef industry.

3K Land & Cattle is a family owned and operated ranch located in the North Texas community of Drop, near Justin, TX. The tradition continues with the next 3K generation: Karlee Kay and Kenedy Kay DeVoe and Emerson Kay Owens

The ranch is managed by Judy Kay and son-in-law Kyley DeVoe. The DeVoe family lives on the ranch, and Kyley manages the day-to- day operations. Kyley and Judy Kay have served in many capacities in the Texas Red Angus Association, and Kyley serves on the board of the National Red Angus Association.

3K started using Red Angus cattle in the early 90’s and continues to use the most current procedures and technology available to produce cattle for the needs of the cattle industry. Always striving to improve the herd, embryo transfer, artificial insemination, and performance data is used in the breeding selection. The Red Angus qualities—fertility, calving ease, sound structure, udder structure, carcass quality, low maintenance and strong performance—are important when selecting bulls and females for the 3K program.

Wood Red Angus (Red Angus)

Wood Red Angus is a family owned ranch operated by Mike and Kathryn Wood and their two children, Nick and Katelyn.  The ranch is located in beautiful northeast Oklahoma, near Sallisaw, in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The cattle run on Bermuda and fescue pastures with minimal supplementation in the winter.  We strive to produce “herd bull” quality sires for the commercial cattleman: cattle which excel in type, performance, carcass quality, and  adaptability. With our bulls working successfully across the U.S and Canada,  from the heat and humidity of Alabama, to the 300 acre per animal unit high desert of Nevada, we believe we are meeting our goals. Wood Red Angus will continue to improve our product to enable our customers the profit potential to maintain the ranching lifestyle that we truly love so  much.  We are very excited to be with Donnell, Kelli, Tucker and Lanham as we believe in their program and know that they are industry leaders in genetics, leadership and above all else Integrity.

Cedar Hill Red Angus

Cedar Hill Farm, located in Jane Lew, West Virginia, is owned and operated by Dan and Alicia Stickel. Dan and Alicia manage all aspects of their cattle operation with limited outside help, and they fully understand the importance of functional, low-input, trouble-free cattle.

The Cedar Hill registered Red Angus herd is managed on steep, hilly, native fescue pastures under commercial cattle conditions. In 1996, they began using a Red Angus bull in a crossbreeding program. The Red Angus-sired calves performed exceptionally well, and since that time, the Cedar Hill herd has expanded to include over 200 head of registered 1A Red Angus females.

Dan and Alicia’s goal is to set the standard for functional, low-input, genetics that excel in the commercial beef industry. The Cedar Hill breeding program places great emphasis on maintaining large, correctly sorted contemporary groups to assure data accurately reflects the performance and functionality of each individual within their herd. Dan and Alicia have collected and utilized carcass ultrasound data since 1997, and they have adopted the use of DNA genomic testing to supplement replacement selection.

Since 1998, Cedar Hill has plan-mated each Red Angus female to high-accuracy sires or bulls sired by multiple-generations of high-accuracy sires to minimize genetic risk. From the very beginning, they have utilized an intensive AI program that places emphasis on multiple trait selection. Their planned mating system emphasizes as much attention to detail for natural service sire selection as it does in AI sire selection. Natural service sires that have roamed the Cedar Hill breeding pastures include Cheyenne, LJC Javelin M08, Celebration, Commitment, and Assurance; all five of which are marketed through major bull studs. Other popular natural service sires used at Cedar Hill include Paramount, Pacesetter, Phenomenal, and Profit Driven.

Cedar Hill Farm has been a cooperator with R.A. Brown Ranch since 2001. The core of our Red Angus program descends from a select group of 28 females that we purchased from R.A. Brown Ranch in 2001. Many of our top herd sires have also come from R.A. Brown Ranch because we believe in the integrity of their program.

Visitors are always welcome at Cedar Hill Farm. We enjoy providing tours of our herd or just talking about our passion of producing the very best cattle we can possibly produce. Feel free to give us a call any time at 304-884-7993 or email us at cedarhillredangus@frontier.com.

Kleiboeker’s Clover Creek Farms, located near Stotts City, MO, is owned and operated by John and Robyn Kleiboeker and their sons:   Donell, Dallas, Jackson, Jordan, and Dyllan.  The boys represent the sixth generation of Kleiboekers farming and raising cattle in southwest Missouri.

Focused on SimAngus (both black and red), the Kleiboeker family also raises Angus and Red Angus cattle to utilize traits that each breed excels in and to capture the heterosis that is offered naturally through crossbreeding. They also believe in the importance of tenderness, flavor, and the eating experience demanded by beef consumers, forging their dedication to the improvement of marbling and other carcass traits that affect beef quality. Maternally oriented, the Kleiboeker's focus on improving fertility and cow longevity as a means of optimizing their return on investment for every female in the herd.

Additionally, John and Robyn and their sons utilize management intensive grazing of novel fescue, Bermuda, and native warm season pastures as well as annuals such as wheat, rye, millet, and sudan grass. Their herds are adapted to single wire electric fences and move themselves from pasture to pasture by simply leading them to the open gate. All their weaned calves are hand fed by walking in and among the calves daily to fill feed bunks. The Kleiboekers believe that producing docile cattle through both genetic selection and good handling techniques allows for more enjoyable interactions on a daily basis, as well as improved production from the cattle.

stumptown cattle

ryan@stumptowncattle.com | Follow us on Facebook | https://www.stumptowncattle.com

Stumptown Cattle is a family owned and operated seedstock operation in Southwest Wisconsin.  Ryan, Britt and their 3 children started their herd in the spring of 2018, purchasing a small commercial herd from a family friend.  Ryan was less than impressed with his new brides’ purchase, having not grown up in production agriculture.  Out of marital obligation Ryan helped calve out the first two calf crops, but like so many things the spring of 2020 changed everything.  Ryan decided that farming and cattle was just in his wife’s blood and if they were going to do this cattle thing, they were going to do it right.  They purchased their first registered Red Angus cow from a local breeder, Emerald Earth Cattle Co.  It was from there that things began to change quickly.  Ryan soon started to study EPD’s and began to sell off their commercial herd and purchased a few more registered cows.

The next chapter of Stumptown Cattle was started in October of 2020 when Ryan’s wife Britt saw an ad for the annual RA Brown ranch in a magazine.  While his less than spontaneous personality was not up for the 14 hour drive to Throckmorton later that week, Britt did log onto the sale online and thought she would see what it was all about.  3 hours later they had purchased 5 more registered cows.  The adventure of getting those cows to WI from Texas is a story for another time, but Ryan was fully hooked after those first cows arrived.  Wisconsin winters are not for the weak or faint of heart, those cows were docile, easy fleshing and terrific mama’s.  This is where Britt fades into the background and Ryan elevates Stumptown Cattle to the next level.

Ryan’s analytical mind began diving into not just EPD’s but cattle pedigrees and breeding programs across the country.  He started developing his own spreadsheets, dove into strategic matings, and learned to AI and ultrasound.  In his studies he was drawn to the work the RA Brown ranch was doing through enhancing sustainability and profitability to their clients.

Attending the Cedar Hill Farms female production sale in the fall of 2021 Ryan and Britt meet Greg Comstock.  Greg took Ryan under his wing and spent many hours on the phone teaching Ryan about the registered cattle business.  The fall of 2022 Stumptown Cattle was honored to become cooperators with the R.A. Brown ranch.  Ryan continues to lead their herd into the future with extensive use of top AI genetics and embryo transfer.  If you ever find yourself in the beautiful Driftless region, stop in for a visit.

Berend Land & Cattle is owned and operated by a brother and sister team, Shane Berend (wife - Kristin) and Sue Ann Berend. Shane and Sue Ann grew up on a family dairy farm (August E Berend Dairy) south of Windthorst, TX, where Shane learned to AI breed cattle while in high school. Shane worked initially on the family dairy and then eventually purchased his own dairy.

As often happens with dairies, Shane started to raise a herd of commercial beef cows along with his dairy herd. Sue Ann moved off and obtained a degree in Genetics and eventually was certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in human genetic testing. The opportunity arose where Sue Ann could do her human genetics work remotely from home and she moved to a farm close to Windthorst in Joy, TX, directly adjacent to some land that Shane had purchased years before. It was then that Shane and Sue Ann partnered on a small herd of registered red angus cattle, and eventually grew their herd to include registered angus and wagyu cattle. All of the registered cattle are set up and AI bred to top sires in the breed. They also use embryos through IVF to proliferate their best donor cows. Recently, they put a high fence around the Joy property and added registered exotics, including fallow and axis deer, blackbuck antelope, gemsbok, and aoudad.
