At the R.A. Brown Ranch, we work hard everyday to provide excellent quality cattle, made up of sound genetics from the breed leaders. Our ranch is focused on three breeds of cattle that perform well for us. Please select the breed name below to view more information and photos.

  • Angus

Our Angus herd has come to the forefront of the breed in the past decade. We attribute this to disciplined breeding strategies of using proven AI sires generation after generation along with sampling the best young bulls we can use via natural service. We generally use these young bulls for only one or two seasons and then sell them in our sale. We select for calving ease with high growth in a moderately framed package, plus strong carcass traits, reproductive efficiency and adaptability traits to help them perform in hot and harsh climates.

Our base cowherd originally came from Ocala, FL in 1988, where they had been adapting and producing for many years in that hot & humid environment. We have continued to breed these cattle to the top, proven AI sires that fit our customer’s needs and climates. We expanded our herd again in 1997 through a partnership with the Gardiner Angus Ranch family. This cowherd originated with embryos from some of the Gardiner’s top donor females.

You will also find us utilizing an extensive embryo transfer program. Gary Mathiews, (formerly our foreman at R.A. Brown Ranch), has certainly turned the crank on mass multiplying our top young females with his excellent ET work.

Our Angus bulls are as good as you’ll find anywhere in the country....genetically superior, performance tested and yet developed in a way that you’ll reap the benefits of a bull designed to cover the countryside without falling apart. We plan to continue our disciplined approach of producing the best Angus genetics, designed to improve profits for you, our customers. All Angus bulls purchased from R.A. Brown Ranch are transferred into the name of our customer, making the calves out of these sires eligible for the Angus Source program and a majority of them are Targeting The Brand noted (on target to produce calves for CAB standards).

  • Red Angus

Red Angus is the most trouble free herd in our purebred program. We love their natural thickness, uniformity, fleshing ability and tremendous fertility. With some of the most sought after donors in the industry and some of our herd bulls in AI stud including, Patriot, Fantastic, Oracle, 100 Proof, Prestigious, Pursuit, Pacesetter, Redemption, Legend, Unmatched, Paramount, Premier, Synergy, Better Answer, Assurance, Commitment, Covenant, Tugboat,  Brown Heritage, Norseman King, Celebration, Mission Statement, Vacation, Cheyenne, Good One, Made Right, and Major League, our Red Angus herd has come to the forefront of the industry. We attribute this to disciplined breeding strategies of stacking proven AI sires, generation after generation, along with owning the best breeding stock we can find. We design these cattle to have calving ease with high growth in a moderately framed package, plus strong carcass traits, superior reproductive efficiency and adaptability to hot and harsh climates.

The base of our Red Angus herd came from Roy Beeby, who had been performance testing his, moderate sized, highly fertile herd for 35 years with strict selection for calving ease and continuous, short calving intervals. We took this herd to a whole new level of performance with top AI sires. Ten years later we gave our herd another boost by acquiring the pick of Leachman’s Elite Nucleus herd and coming home with 17 of the best females in the entire breed. Since then we have been mass multiplying these top females through embryo transfer, resulting in many of these superior animals in the sale today.

Phase three has been to infuse the most superior Black Angus genetics into our Red Angus herd. We will continue to use proven, high accuracy sires to provide you, our customer, with animals that are multiple generations of predictable, and profitable cattle.

All of the Red Angus bulls purchased at R.A. Brown Ranch have papers transferred making their calf crops eligible for the Red Angus Feeder Calf Certification program and most of them for Top Dollar Angus. It has been very rewarding to be a part of this performance driven breed. It is amazing how “on target” the early pioneers of Red Angus were. Their quest for high quality, performance cattle, continues today within the members of the Red Angus Association and the philosophy of  staff and leadership. We are thankful for the opportunity to have served the breed as a National Board Member and 2008-2010 National President and continue serving on many committees today.

  • SimAngus™

SimAngus ... the very best of Angus, Red Angus and Simmental genetics combined into one. The breed complementarity is fantastic. You get the benefits of what each breed has to offer.

Angus & Red Angus: carcass quality, calving ease, easy keeping, and high reproductive efficiency.

Simmental: carcass yield, added growth, milk and muscle.

Our Simmental herd has been bred for almost six decades to produce maximum growth in an optimum sized animal.

    How to Best Use Them:
Using hybrid sires of superior genetics, (just like these bulls) is what the pork and poultry industries are doing to reach all new records for production and customer satisfaction. Many cattle producers are seeing the same results by using these hybrid bulls. Use them with confidence just like you do purebred sires. Superior genetics have been stacked in from both sides of their pedigree, generation after generation. They work great on English and English cross cows to keep the percentage of English genetics at half or more, maintaining and improving their superior carcass quality, easy fleshing ability and reproductive efficiency. The 1/8 to 1/4 Simmental in the resulting calves will increase their growth, muscle and yield grade while simultaneously giving you the opportunity to keep replacement heifers with added milk, yet they can still fit your environment. If your cows are ½ Continental and you want to keep them there, then these bulls will keep you there and make the calves even better because of the superior genetics bred into these hybrid bulls.

Here’s a promise you can take to the bank....using all of our knowledge and experience in these three breeds, we will continue to give you access to what we think are the best of “three worlds” in the form of SimAngus herd sires. You’ll see more of these in the years to come as we grow this segment of our seedstock herd.
